Why You Need A Positive Company Culture

A good company culture may be the missing link to your company’s success. If your employees don’t feel good about the time they are spending at work, they will not reach their full potential. Therefore, your company will not be reaching its full potential. We all spend so much time working during our lives, and experiencing a bad company culture rather than a good company culture can make it seem like half of our lives are wasted.

Employees who hate being at work are not going to do their best work, and it’s not necessarily their fault. You can’t force someone to do something well when they have had the motivation beaten out of them. Positive company culture starts with how the company leadership chooses to lead. Good company culture starts with leaders who value their employees as people. Good leaders should focus on making sure they take the time to understand and validate their employee's and their goals and motivations.

Bad Company Culture Examples

Bad company culture is one where everyone involved can’t wait to leave. It is also one that people spend a lot of time doing that complaining about. A bad company culture means that your employees are always going to be looking for a way out. If they are looking for a way out, it’s safe to assume they are not very motivated to do their best work.

But what causes these feelings in employees? The short answer is a lack of trust and respect. This might be a lack of trust and respect from leadership or peers. Maybe you have a boss who is a bully and likes to point out publicly every little mistake someone makes. Or maybe you have a lot of micromanagers who like to make everyone else feel like they aren’t smart enough to do their own jobs. Or maybe every choice is made by one person and no one else gets to voice their opinions.

A bad company culture leaves employees frustrated and defeated. Bad company culture gets in the way of productivity because employees lose their motivation, It also leads to high turnover, which means you will spend more time training new employees than coming up with new ideas with employees who have had a chance to grow beyond their basic job descriptions.

Good Company Culture Examples

Good company culture is built on the idea that everyone is a valued member of the team. Each person should feel that their motivations and goals are important and that they have the opportunity to contribute their ideas. Employees should know that they specifically are valuable, not just whatever their output is. No one wants to feel like a robot following someone else’s programming.

A leader developing a great company culture should be selfless enough to allow employees to do whatever is best for them, instead of whatever would be the leader’s personal preference. They will also work hard to make sure they understand what makes their employees tick. They will make sure that they know what motivates their employees and make sure that the work they do every day helps the employee accomplish their own goals in life. This also means that a leader might choose not to hire someone whose goals aren’t likely to be congruent with the culture the company is trying to establish.

A healthy company culture gives each member of the team an opportunity to share their unique knowledge with the team to help everyone grow.
