In 2018, Neon Canvas was voted one of the best places to work in Memphis. We are proud of this because it means we are doing something right and helping improve the lives of both our employees and our clients.
Important Parts of Becoming a Best Place to Work
One of the most significant aspects of how we accomplished becoming a best place to work has to do with how we value our team members, and how we prove that we value them. We think it’s important to get to know our employees as people, not just workers. We want to find out what makes our team tick. People feel valued when someone takes the time to figure out what their goals are and what motivates them. Some people are motivated by affirmation, while others are motivated by checking things off a list. Some people have goals that revolve around their family, while others have goals that revolve around personal success.
Making employees feel valued
Becoming a best place to work ultimately means that the people who work for you don’t feel like they are wasting their time and energy by being there. The goal is for your employees to feel like time spent at work is generally time well spent. Of course, everyone has days when they would rather stay in bed than do anything, but hopefully, our team is happy to be in the office most days. We all spend such a large portion of our lives in our workplaces. We want our team to feel like the time they spend with us is helping them achieve the goals and aspirations they have set outside of work. This means we have to take the time to learn what those are and make sure our company culture makes room for that.
At Neon Canvas want our employees to know how much we value them. If you aren’t making a point to recognize exceptional work, you aren’t making your company a great place to work. The more you affirm the work of your employees, the more fulfilled they will be. They will also try harder to do good work because they understand that their hard work is actually being noticed. If your team members realize that they get the same response from leadership for great work and mediocre work, they will eventually stop trying to do the great work.
Working as a team in a best place to work
Another part of being a best place to work is being intentional about the time we spend together as a team. We don’t just order lunch and expect that to be enough of a perk. Instead, we gather as a team and learn things from each other. We all value the knowledge that each team member already has, and we want to invest in everyone’s growth. We also take time to invest in our community in Memphis by volunteering as a team. Each month a different team member chooses a cause that they care about, and we all support their compassion.
We know that happy employees are innovative, hard-working, and less likely to burn out. This means that you and your clients will be happier, too. By becoming a best place to work, we improve our industry, our client's businesses, and ourselves.
